Product Description

Get fit without toiling at the gym several times a week with the LifeCore LC400 elliptical trainer. Equipped with patented Center Drive technology, the LC400 puts the user in a biomechanically correct position during each workout. This natural, upright positioning not only improves your balance and stability, but it also supports a more efficient performance, helping you burn more calories in a shorter time. As with all elliptical trainers, the LC400 also offers dual-action arm handles that challenge your upper body as well as your lower. Plus, ellipticals are easy on the knees, with a true elliptical motion that boosts overall balance and puts less stress on weight-bearing joints. And thanks to the unit's friction-free magnetic resistance system, users will enjoy a smooth fluid motion as they pump the oversized 18.5-inch cushioned foot pedals.

The LC400 offers oversized pedals and a low step-up height.

The trainer's console tracks your time, speed, distance, calories, and more.

To keep you motivated during your workout, the LC400 offers a large display that tracks your time, speed, distance, calories, and more. And because a good workout program demands variety, the trainer features 18 total programs, including 12 preset programs, four heart rate control programs, a heart rate recovery program, and a single user-customized course. Other features include a 21-inch ergonomic stride length, center-grip handheld heart rate grips, 16 levels of magnetic resistance, sealed ball bearings in all pivot points, a cooling fan, a heart rate chest strap, and a built-in reading rack.

MONEY WELL-SPENT!

Review Date: September 10, 2009

Wow! My shipping invoice put the total weight of the LC-400 trainer at 314 pounds. The shipping weight as reported in the literature is 244.5 pounds, and the outfit is supposed to tip the scales at 226.9 pounds assembled. I suggest that you open the big box outside and separate the individually boxed and packaged components into easy to handle groups. Get at least two gorillas to handle the base. This poundage-plenty, awkward, and clumsy section doesn't offer a good spot for a hand dolly, and it's too wide to maneuver through doorways and hallways in the flat mode. Go vertical and put at least one gorilla in the front and at least one in the back.

Once the parts are unwrapped, you'll find great assembly instructions, nine or ten individual screw/bolt/nut packets with numbers that correspond to the numbered steps in the assembly process, and a complete tool kit--a large and small Allen wrench, a 17 mm socket wrench, an open end wrench, and a screwdriver. It's a breeze to set up, and I'd only suggest that you tighten each nut, screw, or bolt securely only after every one in a specific assembly step is hand fitted and hand snugged in place.

The console instructions are very poorly written. For example, it directs you to "Press the USER button." Hmmm? There isn't a USER button! How about "press the ENTER button?" No ENTER button either. We figured it out by trial and error, but for the money, the consumer should get a comprehensive guide to the console, as it regulates the programs, heart rate monitor, body fat readout, and other essential features of the machine.

The console displays the time and temperature in its sleep mode, but the numbers are so dim you can barely see them. Vista customer service was instantly responsive to a related email and reported that the numbers are purposely kept dim to reduce power consumption.

About three weeks after taking delivery, we noticed a repetitive creaking noise coming from the left side of the unit as the pedals rotated. I fired off an email describing the problem and detailing the steps I had taken from the troubleshooting section of the manual to remedy the situation. I had a phone call right away the next morning from a LifeCORE customer support technician who readily offered a solution to the problem. After tightening and lubricating two suspect bolts, I reported that the noise was still there, and the tech team, Brett and Ricardo, again came back with an alternate plan that was very easy to follow and execute. I removed the screws supporting the cosmetic surround and simply had to adjust tension on a bolt near the flywheel assembly. The team used the exploded drawing in the owner's manual to keep me on the right track, and needless to say, the unit is back to its "quiet as a mouse" status.

If you can change your own motor oil, or operate a screwdriver and a socket wrench (with or without adult supervision and guidance), you can perform maintenance on the LC400 should it be required. Getting into the mechanical intricacies of the unit made me appreciate its construction even more, so I instead of putting the creaking noise on the negative side of the ledger, the relative ease of repair led me to treat this minor inconvenience as a positive learning experience. With the nearest LifeCORE dealer over 400 miles away, I'm glad it was that easy. (At one point in our discussion, LifeCORE offered to contact and send a service technician to my home if we were unable to resolve the problem over the phone.)

The LC-400 represents first class club-quality equipment. With 2" tubular welded steel construction and main battle tank ruggedness, this powder paint coated beauty far exceeds the needs of the average consumer--unless of course, you want the best! We're an older couple with very limited space for a trainer. We use it religiously, are very happy with our purchase, and highly recommend the LifecCORE LC-400. Great value for the money!
